SideQuest: Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy applies specifically to the SideQuest: The Last Stand Android app published by LunarWerx LLC ("LunarWerx", "we", "us", "our"). It is separate from the LunarWerx website Privacy Policy and governs the SideQuest app, which does none of the website's data collection. Last updated: October 7, 2026.
The short version (plain English): SideQuest runs entirely on your phone. The app has no internet permission, so it physically cannot send your data anywhere, even if we wanted to, we can't. There are no accounts. Everything it knows (which apps you guard, your settings, your stats) lives only on your phone and is gone when you uninstall. It uses the Accessibility Service only to see which app you've opened, never what's on your screen or what you type.
1. The part that matters most
Most apps quietly collect and transmit data about you. SideQuest is built so that it cannot. We deliberately did not include the Android INTERNET permission. That means SideQuest has no way to make a network connection, upload anything, or "phone home." This isn't a promise we ask you to take on faith; it's enforced by the operating system and verifiable in the app's permissions.
2. Who and what this policy covers
This policy covers the SideQuest: The Last Stand Android app. It is separate from the LunarWerx marketing website (lunarwerx.com), which has its own privacy policy covering things like website analytics. Those website practices do not apply to the SideQuest app; the app does none of them.
3. What stays private
- We do not have user accounts or require sign-in.
- We do not show ads or sell, share, or rent data.
- We do not read, record, or transmit the content of your screen, your messages, or anything you type in any app.
4. The Accessibility Service: exactly what it does
SideQuest's core feature requires knowing the moment you open an app you've chosen to guard. The only Android capability that allows this is the Accessibility Service, and we use it as narrowly as technically possible:
- It receives only window-change events that tell SideQuest the package name (e.g. com.instagram.android) of the app currently in the foreground.
- It has canRetrieveWindowContent turned off, meaning SideQuest is technically incapable of reading the text, images, fields, or any content shown on your screen.
- It does not capture keystrokes, passwords, or input of any kind.
- The foreground app name is used only on your device, in the moment, to decide whether to show SideQuest's puzzle/lock. It is not logged, stored long-term, or sent anywhere.
Before you enable this service, the app shows a clear in-app explanation of what it accesses and why, and enabling it is a manual choice you make in your device's system settings.
5. Usage Access (optional)
If, and only if, you choose to grant "Usage Access," SideQuest reads your device's on-device app-usage times to show you local statistics (like estimated minutes reclaimed). This is optional, the app works without it, and this information never leaves your device.
6. What's stored on your device
SideQuest stores its settings locally on your phone in its private app storage: your list of guarded apps, per-app options, your local stats, and similar preferences. This data:
- Stays on your device,
- Is never transmitted off it,
- And is permanently deleted when you uninstall the app.
7. Permissions we request, and why
| Permission | Why | Sensitive? |
|---|---|---|
| Accessibility Service | Detect which app is in the foreground to trigger the intercept (content reading is disabled) | Used narrowly; no content access |
| Usage Access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS) | Optional. On-device usage times for your local stats | Optional, on-device only |
| Vibrate (VIBRATE) | Haptic feedback on puzzle solves | No |
| Internet | Not requested. The app cannot connect to any network. | - |
All puzzle content is bundled inside the app and loaded locally; because there is no internet permission, the app cannot load any remote content.
8. Donations and Stripe
If you choose to donate, you do so through external Stripe links opened in your web browser, not inside the app. Any payment information you enter is handled by Stripe under Stripe's own privacy policy. SideQuest and LunarWerx never receive your card details.
9. Children
SideQuest is intended for users 18 and older and is not directed to children.
10. Your privacy rights
Privacy laws such as the GDPR and CCPA give people rights to access, correct, or delete personal data a company holds about them. There is nothing stored on a server for us to retrieve, export, correct, or delete. The only data the app uses is on your own device, fully under your control, and removable at any time by uninstalling the app. You will never receive marketing from us through the app, because we have no way to contact you through it.
11. Security
The strongest protection for your data is that it never leaves your device. With no servers, no accounts, and no network access, there is no central store to breach and nothing in transit to intercept.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and post the new version here. Because the app contains no internet access, we cannot notify you in-app; please check this page if you'd like to stay current.
